As part of the ongoing Peristyle festival comes a performance by Telamure called “Tarentella Roots” from August 9-11. This year, the Peristyle Cafe Jazz has been transformed into a Peristyle Festival, an initiative by the Opera Underground in partnership with Nova. This is a new project by Opera de Lyon. The festival will run through September 1, 2018. To keep a long story short, there is nothing but fine music here at the fest; that goes on for 75 nights. The music extends much beyond jazz. The BBC Radio calls it a trans-musical trip for which no passport is needed. The festive spirit has some exotic stopovers, from Lyon to Addis Ababa via New York, Bogota, Paris, Sao Paolo. Telamure are three gifted musicians of the Italian mezzogiorno, meaning the south of Italy. The brothers Francesco and Giovanni Semeraro hail from the Apulia region while Francesco Rosa is from the Calabrese. With a profound impact of their land’s musical traditions, their journeys intersect in Paris, as they make a stopover at the cafes of Belleville, Menilmontant and Montreuil districts. The influence of their music culture has directly come from people of their villages or been picked up from their own families. The repertoire they have built through the years is an amalgam of all the little things they picked up while they were growing up with their folks around. They have not directly copied anyone; but Telamure has developed its own original style which respects the roots of musicians. Their creations translate into a sound which is a fusion of the old and current.Telamure values the authentic aspect this music and endeavor to preserve its spontaneity and uniqueness. Francesco Rosa does the chitarra battente, zampogna, percussion, vocals; Giovanni Semeraro the diatonic accordions, castagnola, percussion, vocals and Francesco Semeraro, again the diatonic accordions, castagnola, percussion and vocals as well. It’s a universally known fact that Italy’s sense of national identity comes from its cultural diversity; and their relentless appreciation of beauty and emotionality, which is absolutely evident in Italian music. Often, music becomes a mode to address cultural, political and social issues in Italy. Music is an integral part of the Italian’s social identity but one single style of music cannot be considered as a quintessential "national style". Since, most folk music is unique to smalls regions or cities, the music of Telamure is a testament of the fact that good music can emanate from oblivion; it may not necessarily come from the great orchestral halls. The show opens on August 9, 2018 and runs through August 11, 2018 at Opera of Lyon, 1 place of comedy, 69001 LyonFor details, visit https://www.opera-lyon.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the performers.http://www.blouinartinfo.com Founder: Louise Blouin
