“Star Wars: A New Hope” gets an orchestral-concert revival with David Newman leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic in performing the iconic John Williams score live-to picture at Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles on August 7, 2018.John Williams’s iconic composition will be performed live-to-picture as the George Lucas’ film plays in the background on the big screen as part of the Hollywood Bowl’s Classical Tuesdays series. The music of Star Wars has become a legendary force unto itself and it continues to be composed and produced in conjunction with feature films, television series etc. within the space opera franchise created by Lucas. Composer John Williams’s scores for the eight saga films with a suite for a spin-off film are today hailed as the most widely known and popular contributions to modern film music. The music employs a symphony orchestra featuring around fifty recurring musical themes that represent the characters, plot and the sub plots among other elements. The music for the first two trilogies of the franchise was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Some of the select passages were performed by the London Voices chorus.Throughout all of the Star Wars films, which has a total of over 18 hours of music, Williams has written approximately fifty themes in one of the largest, richest collection of themes in the history of film music. The score is an amalgam of a diverse variety of musical styles, many sourced from Richard Strauss’ Late Romantic idiom. This was also incorporated into what is referred as “The Golden Age” Hollywood scores of Erich Korngold and Max Steiner.George Lucas wanted to bring alive that underlying element of fantasy that the Star Wars narrative demanded, and was aware that much of his film’s success depended on its music, not on the film’s advanced visual effects. The music’s intention was to create a direct emotional appeal for the plot and characters. It is said that originally Lucas wanted to use tracked orchestral and film music similar to Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which was a major inspiration for Star Wars. However, it was Williams who advised Lucas to create a soundtrack using recurring musical themes that would enhance the story. The concert is on August 7, 2018 at Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90068, USA.For details, visit https://www.hollywoodbowl.comClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the film.http://www.blouinartinfo.com Founder: Louise Blouin
