It’s becoming an epidemic. In the US alone, around 20 percent of people suffer from anxiety. The count would go higher if other mental illnesses were to be taken into account. Hollywood is no stranger when it comes to mental health issues. Right from Marilyn Monroe to Mel Gibson, celebrities have been plagued by mental health issues like drug dependence, alcoholism, manic depression, suicidal tendencies and a host of other problems. Though many have perished to it, there are some who seek professional help and are able to deal with it positively. The Hollywood Reporter recently carried an article about how celebrities are proactively taking steps to deal with their mental health issues, because even the brain is an organ of the body and it needs to be looked after well. While a recurring threat of stigma kept many famous faces from sharing their mental health struggles, more stars are coming forward in recent years, with Ryan Reynolds and Carson Daly among the notable names speaking about their mental health issues just in the last few months.Emma Stone, Lena Dunham and Jesse Eisenberg have taken the initiative to team up with the Child Mind Institute to promote a series of programs on mental health. There are videos in which a number of Hollywood stars share their own experiences with mental illness, encouraging those suffering from anxiety-related disorders to seek correct treatment. Some stars have taken to their personal platforms, like the social media, to narrate their stories. The endeavor is to dispel any kind of myths and misconceptions that are associated with the topic. For the first 15 years of her career, Kristen Bell kept her struggles with anxiety and depression away from the public eye. In a 2016 personal essay published by Motto, Bell finally opened up about dealing with mental illness that she developed while in drama school.Bell said: “I was at New York University, I was paying my bills on time, I had friends and ambition — but for some reason, there was something intangible dragging me down,” Bell wrote. Thanks to her mother, she knew that help was out there and she sought it without shame. Bell went on to warn people of the social media and how it is distorting reality for many young people. She urges people not to be fooled by this game of perfection that humans play. Bell adds, “Because Instagram and magazines and TV shows, they strive for a certain aesthetic, and everything looks so beautiful, and people seem like they don’t have any problems, but everyone’s human. Everyone has problems.”Bell, who stars in the show “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” claims she faced some of her worst pangs of anxiety during the early stages of The CW “Gossip Girl” series. Her personal essay published in Glamour describes the anxiety that consumed her while she was pitching the pilot to networks. But times have changed. Now, Bell attends therapy sessions regularly and meditates, something she claims has helped her greatly.http://www.blouinartinfo.com Founder: Louise Blouin
