Director Pierre Audi’s production of Richard Wagner’s last opera “Parsifal” will be staged at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam from December 6 through December 29, 2016.The show, which premiered at the Holland Festival in 2012, is designed in part by the Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor and conducted by Marc Albrecht. It follows the tale of an Arthurian knight and his quest for the Holy Grail and proved controversial upon its original debut in 1882. At the time, Wagner was increasingly drawn to questions of a spiritual nature, especially those of redemption. “Parsifal” follows in that tradition, challenging its audience with moral quandaries while stupefying the senses with sound and movement. Starring Christopher Ventris as the titular character and Petra Lang as Kundry, Audi’s version of the three-act opera returns to the stage after a four-year hiatus. Richard Wagner’s “Parsifal” will be staged at the Dutch National Opera, Amstel 3, 1011 PN Amsterdam. For details, visit: www.operaballet.nlClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the ballet
