A production “Akhnaten” directed by Phelim McDermott will be staged at the LA Opera in Los Angeles on November 27, 2016, at 2 pm.In one of avant-garde composer Philip Glass’s most hypnotic works, the pharaoh Akhnaten ascends to the throne with his wife Nefertiti to decree the Sun God as the one true God, declaring monotheism throughout his kingdom. His decision leads his people to rebel against his rule, ending in strife and violence for those involved. Underscored by the driving rhythms and choral harmonies of Glass’s exuberant masterpiece, conductor Matthew Aucoin and stars Anthony Roth Costanzo and J/Nai Bridges deliver poignant performances as the driving forces of the narrative.
