‘Francofonia’ a film by director Aleksandr Sokurov will be screened at Dundee Contemporary Arts through November 24, 2016.The plot is a combination of philosophy, history, art, and memory. Sokurov (Russian Ark) creates characters based on real life personas such as Jacques Jaujard (Louis-Do de Lenquesaing), director of the Louvre in the Second World War and Count Franziskus Wolff-Metternich (Benjamin Utzerath), the man selected by the German occupation forces to deal with France’s art treasures. The film is a commentary on how relevant the relationship between art, culture, and history is and how art reveals one’s individuality even amidst bloody conflict and brutality.The screening is on view at Dundee Contemporary Arts, 152 Nethergate, Dundee DD1 4DY, UK.
