“Lucinda Childs – Sol Lewitt” is an exhibition part of the Lucinda Childs retrospective, which will be on display through January 7, 2017. The exhibition is being displayed at the Galerie Thaddaeus’s space in Pantin and will highlight the parallel development of the graphic methods of the two artists during the 1970s. Their affinity began to grow early in the decade on account of common ideas in drawing, seriality and movement, leading to their collaboration in the piece Dance (1979), which gained widespread attention. Dance (1979) was a major departure from status-quo for both the artists; for Childs, it was a move away from the alternative spaces she had presented her pieces in the last two decades and for Lewitt, it was the creation of the only film installation in his oeuvre. The choreographer’s archives that have never been exhibited before, trace the development of her choreographic language in the 1970s. The artists exchanged diagrams in their first meetings for the creation and preparation of Dance; among the documents assembled in this exhibition, a great deal of the correspondence between Sol LeWitt and the choreographer is also displayed. The exhibition is at GALERIE THADDAEUS ROPAC - 69, AVENUE DU GÉNÉRAL LECLERC FR-93500 PANTIN.
