Inaugural Mahindra Kabira Festival in Varanasi, India

Inaugural edition of the Mahindra Kabira Festival will be held at Varanasi, India from November 4 through November 6, 2016. Mahindra Group, the $17.8 billion multinational based in Mumbai, India, has announced the Mahindra Kabira Festival to be held annually in Varanasi (Benaras). The inaugural edition will be held from November 4-6 at the holy city’s Darbhanga and Assi ghats. Varanasi, considered the longest continuously inhabited city anywhere in the world, will host an immersive festival by the river Ganga, offering an opportunity to imbibe the philosophies and the lyrical aspect of the teachings of the 15th century mystic-poet, Kabir, who was also born in this city. The festival will present inspirational music along with heritage walks, literature sessions, food and yoga. Anand Mahindra, chairman of the group that also hosts a much-reverred annual theatre festival in Delhi, said, “We are delighted to introduce the Mahindra Kabira Festival (MKF). MKF will be an annual music festival celebrating Kabir and offering a holistic experience of Varanasi and its many facets, going beyond music. This festival is a continuation and an expansion of our commitment towards celebrating and promoting the arts.” The festival will present music in the mornings on the Darbhanga ghat, featuring Kabir singers such as Shabnam Virmani, Vipul Rikhi, Azeem Ahmed Alvi, Atul Shankar, and Pandit Debashish De. Literature sessions will be held in the afternoons on the terrace of Brij Rama Palace Hotel. Lyricist Javed Akhtar and author Amish Tripathi will hold forth at these sessions. The heritage walks and food trails will provide an experience to savor famous Kashi delicacies such as kachoris, parathas, chaat, lassi and pan.
