The opening ceremony for the third Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition takes place at the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) on 10 July, 2015.Hosted by the NCPA and taking place from the 10-17 July 2015, the competition invites international ballet dancers and choreographers to perform before the judging panels chaired by, Ballet Director of the Bolshoi Theater Sergei Yurevitch Filin and former Director of the Paris Opera Ballet, Brigitte Lefevre.“The competition aims to identify top-notch ballet dancers and choreographers and promote international exchanges in dance art.” Explains the NCPA website. All entrants must be professional dancers or choreographers and aged between 16 and 35.The competition is co-hosted by Beijing Morning Star Ballet Foundation and the principal sponsor is the Yvonne L.K.Lui Foundation who provide support in disaster relief areas. “The emphasis of the competition is on artistic standard and variety, with successful participants gaining global attention from the top schools, choreographers, dance troupes, media and benefactors. Prizes of up to $20,000 USD in each category help change the lives and dancing opportunities of the Beijing IBCC’s contestants.” According to the Yvonne L.K.Lui Foundation.The competition hopes not only to promote the talent of the artists competing, but also to open the art-form to new audiences in hope that the popularity of ballet will continue to grow throughout China.“The Yvonne L. K. Lui Foundation’s art and culture sector elected to help and support the launch and development of the Beijing IBCC because it is important for China’s art and performance scene to be put on the map.” States the Foundation’s website. The NCPA agree saying “western critics predicted that 'the future of ballet belongs to the East'.”Tickets are available for the opening ceremony on 10 July as well as for all dates of the competition via the NCPA’s website.
