The Drawing Center in New York will host a performance art event titled “Drawing Sound III: Composing the City” on September 28, 2016.The program will feature Paul Miller (aka DJ Spooky) in discussion and performance that will refer to the recent architecture and music projects that look for patterns in everyday life. Although the disciplines have different approaches, and while architecture follows a physical structural pattern, and music is an abstract medium, both the mediums use idealized mathematical models as an aesthetic basis, and each informs and drives the other, combining to create an all-encompassing media environment. As a part of the program, composer Paul Miller and David Lang will discuss these themes with architects and designers Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Daniel Libeskind. The conversation will be followed by a performance by Paul Miller of Ordos 100 REMIX, an interpretation of Ai Weiwei’s collaboration with architecture firm Herzog& de Meuron. “Imaginary Blueprints,” 2016, a series of drawings by artist Sougwen Chung will also be featured, which addresses the closeness between hand-drawn and digitally produced marks by reworking existing architectural plans. The program will be on view at The Drawing Center, 35 Wooster Street, New York, NY 10013, United States.
