The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) from September 12-30, 2016 at its Jamshed Bhabha Theatre.SOI is the country’s first and only professional orchestra. Under the leadership of Kazakh violin virtuoso Marat Bisengaliev, who is the Music Director of the Orchestra, SOI has become an internationally acclaimed group. The orchestra has performed with famous conductors and soloists like Charles Dutoit, Augustin Dumay, Maria Joao Pires, Zakir Hussain, and others. It has presented several full-stage operas in Mumbai, and has also been invited to perform in many renowned international venues.The 10th anniversary program will open with a concert led by British conductor Martyn Brabbins — his debut concert in India. The season will also feature many other performances, including Paganini Violin Concerto No.1 with Hungarian violinist Kristof Barati, orchestras conducted by Bisengaliev and SOI’s Associate Music Director Zane Dalal, and a performance by 12-year-old piano prodigy Sanzharali Kopbayev.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the program.
