"New Films from Asia" at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, presents movies from South Korea and Japan from August 19-23. The two films to be screened are "My Love, Don’t Cross That River," a South Korean documentary, and the Japanese drama "Sweet Bean." "My Love, Don’t Cross That River" was a box office sensation in South Korea, and portrays an elderly couple and their romance through simple gestures and daily routines. The film narrates a story of enduring love and tender feelings between the couple until the last moments of their 76-year marriage. Director Mo-young Jin captures a love that defies age and time."Sweet Bean" centers on Sentaro, who sells dorayaki pancakes at his small bakery, and is engulfed by sad memories. He cooks without any passion until a cheerful elderly woman responds to his ad for an assistant.Both films have been nominated for several awards and have been screened internationally.
