The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai, in association with Silly Point Productions, is presenting India’s first musical on Mahatma Gandhi.Entitled “Gandhi — The Musical,” it premieres on August 14 to mark the country’s 70th Independence Day (August 15). The Broadway-style musical will map the life of the Mahatma from his early days in South Africa to his rise as the "Father of the Nation." The 120-minute musical features 16 original songs composed by Nariman Khambata and Rahul Pais, 12 dances choreographed by Bertwin D’souza, spectacular set design, and the use of 3D mapping technology. The play is directed by Danesh R Khambata of Silly Point Productions. Well-known theater artiste Chirag Vora plays the senior Gandhi, while Abhishek Krishnan plays the younger version. Beloved Bollywood actor Boman Irani will appear as “The Raj,” a voice that Gandhi battles against.The musical will be staged daily through August 21 (except for August 16-17) at 7.30 pm.
