Composed by Georges Bizet, the famous four-act opera “Carmen” has taken the stage at the 94th Opera Festival in Verona until August 27.Written in the “opéra comique” genre, “Carmen” has been a controversial name in the world of opera. Set in southern Spain, it describes the story of the main characters Carmen and Don Jose, and the different stages of their relationship. The storyline presents Carmen as a free-spirited gypsy whose ideas about life and love lead her to a tragic death at the hands of her own lover Don Jose, whose life went through turmoil because of his love for her.Staged at Arena di Verona, the opera is directed by Franco Zeffirelli.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the show.
