Witness and listen to Clarisse Teo as she explores lesser-known 20th Century solo piano works at The Esplanade on August 12. The works played at the concert are Mompou Variations sur un theme de Chopin, Medtner Three Pieces, Op. 31 (1914), d’Indy Theme Varie, Fugue et Chanson, Op. 85 and Alexandrov Piano Sonata No. 4 in C major, Op. 19 (1922).As a performer, Clarisse was the quintessential prodigy who picked up playing the piano thinking it was just some piece of furniture; she was just 4 years of age then. Later she was enrolled at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Junior Department), where she studied the piano under Mr. Timothy Ku and the violin and viola with Ms. Marietta Ku. Clarisse went on to obtain her FRSM in piano, Diploma ABRSM (Distinction) in violin and Diploma ABRSM in viola. A student in the Music Elective Programme (Raffles Girls’ Secondary and Raffles Institution (Junior College), Clarisse has served as viola principal in her secondary school as well as college ensembles. As a pianist, she has performed in both solo and chamber capacities. She used to be a frequent guest soloist in Piano Ensemble concerts at Nanyang Technological University and Victoria Junior College. Clarisse has played in masterclasses conducted by Dr. Azariah Tan, Raymond Yong, Geoffery Saba and Martin Soderberg. Known as an advocate for lesser-known works, her solo ouvre includes the compositions of Medtner and Alexandrov. As an active chamber musician, she appears mostly in piano duet and duo settings and has an established working partnership with Joan Quah. In 2016, they together presented a sold-out piano duo concert at the Esplanade Recital Studio. In their performance, they explored a diverse range of 20th Century works, from Gershwin to Poulenc. The Esplanade website mentions that Clarisse has also successfully collaborated with professional Japanese instrumentalists from the Min-On Ensemble for a concert which celebrated the 50th anniversary of Singapore and Japan’s bilateral relations. Clarisse performed a mix of Western Classical and traditional Japanese music. During her undergraduate days, she was a regular performer and also the Student Music Director with the National University of Singapore Piano Ensemble. Since she graduated, Clarisse has been invited to perform as a guest alumnus, and she continues to play with the alumni ensemble. With the intention to learn more and widen her repertoire, Clarisse Teo will be starting the Master of Music programme at Scotland’s Royal Conservatoire in the fall of 2018, with the intent to major in piano performance. The concert is on August 12, 2018 at The Esplanade Co Ltd, 1 Esplanade Drive, Singapore 038981For details, visit https://www.esplanade.comhttp://www.blouinartinfo.com Founder: Louise Blouin
