As part of Carnegie Hall’s City Wide program, eclectic musician Sinkane will be performing at Manhattan’s Bryant Park on August 8. Sinkane’s real name is Ahmed Gallab who was born in London and thereafter lived in Sudan for five years. Even though he was an infant then, he keenly imbibed North Africa’s musical culture which inspired his signature style of music, which he has developed over the years. Sinkane has a euphoric hybrid sound, coupled with heavy percussion Sudanese pop, reggae, funk, electronic and free jazz. A well known recording artist too; Sinkane has numerous acclaimed albums and EP’s to his credit. “Life & Livin’ It,” his latest recording has garnered good reviews. The Guardian has called the piece “socially conscious music suffused with joy.”The Sudanese-American musician loves to experiment with different styles and forms. He fuses electronica, free jazz, krautrock, prog rock, and funk rock with Sudanese pop. Sinkane is signed to City Slang Records. Before starting his solo career he worked as a session musician with Born Ruffians, Yeasayer and Eleanor Friedberger.Last year, Sinkane a.k.a Ahmed Gallab spoke to digital music magazine Noisey about his work and what it takes to make music for the ongoing political climate to which the polymath musician replied "If we don't have hope we're just gonna wallow in our own filth."“Life & Livin’ It,” is an album which makes a contrasting change of tone to Sinkane’s earlier release “Mean Love,” which sounded lonely. It released in 2014 and was his first with City Slang. But “Life & Livin’ It” breaks the barriers of isolation and is spread out in terms of the vocals and music. So, if Mean Love was an ode to Sinkane’s ego and id, Life and Livin’ it can be called an ode to his Superego.“Life & Livin' It” was a vast exercise. Sinkane got together band members like drummer JayTram to create a more inclusive songwriting process. He also expanded his touring group, collaborating with Amanda Khiri, the one half of duo Z & A and Elanna Canlas, whose a keyboard player with the Easy Star All-Stars. Once composed, Sinkane took the album's nine tracks to people. He performed them at Brooklyn clubs, after which he recorded them at El Paso’s Sonic Ranch Studio.Sinkane also told Noisey that making an album that reflects the spirit of freedom is the greatest way to fight against tyranny. “Life & Livin'” endeavors to endorse this sentiment as a universal truth that anyone who feels alienated can hook onto. The album is not meant to be musical masterpiece but humane. It must act as a resource for anyone who feels afraid to speak out, or for anyone who is feeling zonked out and discouraged. The show is on August 8, 2018 at Bryant Park Stage, 40th Street to 42nd Street, Fifth Avenue to Sixth Avenue, Manhattan, NYFor details, visit https://www.carnegiehall.org/http://www.blouinartinfo.com                                 Founder: Louise Blouin
