Gioachino Rossini's “Semiramide” will be presented on The Metropolitan Opera Radio under SiriusXM Encore Broadcast. The performance featuring Benini, Meade, DeShong, Camarena, Abdrazakov, and Green will be supported by Ludwig Van Beethoven music.Rossini's “Semiramide” is an opera presented in two acts. The libretto has been written by Gaetano Rossi and is based on Voltaire's tragedy “Semiramis,” which again was believed to be based on the legend of Semiramis of Assyria.“The High Priest Oroe invites all to enter the temple, and Babylonians (along with others from abroad, including Idreno the Indian King) do so carrying offerings to Baal. Assur states that the day has come for the Queen to choose a successor and he reminds all of his own valour. Idreno expresses surprise at Assur's aspirations and all express their individual concerns and fears,” says the The Metropolitan Opera website.“Semiramide” was not a preferred choice for broadcasts until recently. The last time the opera was programmed for the MET radio was in the year 1895. As per the performers the vocal music is characterized by its share of difficulty, singing becomes a challenge while playing the characters. However, they accepted the challenge.As per the website, “for more than seven decades, the Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcasts have brought opera into millions of homes, playing a vital and unparalleled role in the development and appreciation of opera in this country. The broadcasts debuted on December 25, 1931, with Humperdinck’s ‘Hansel and Gretel,’ and are now the longest-running classical music series in American broadcast history.”The channel has frequent rebroadcasts of Met Opera performances.
