“The Little Stranger” directed by Lenny Abrahamson is a gothic drama horror film. The film is based on a horror novel of the same name by Sarah Waters. Written by Lucinda Coxon, the cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Ruth Wilson, Will Poulter and Charlotte Rampling.“The Little Stranger” tells the story of Dr Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. The chilling ghost drama takes place in a remote English village post-WWII Britain.“During the long hot summer of 1948, Faraday is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants — mother, son and daughter — are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how disturbingly, the family's story is about to become entwined with his own,” writes the Cobble Hill Cinemas website.Director Lenny Abrahamson has been well-appreciated earning a Best Director nomination at the 2016 Academy Awards and widespread praise for “Room.” His 2014 film “Frank” too was hailed by critics. Having previously worked together on “Frank” Abrahamson and Gleeson are reunited for “The Little Stranger.”“Abrahamson has proven himself to be an extremely impressive filmmaker in recent years, and with this trailer, the future looks bright for the director as he journeys into new territory,” says Film School Rejects. The film’s recent trailer release has heightened the expectations of film lovers. IndieWire writes, “‘Room’ director Lenny Abrahamson surprised the industry when he landed one of the five Oscar nominations for best director in 2016. Prior to his Brie Larson-starring drama, Abrahamson was best known as the director behind small, offbeat character studies like ‘Adam and Paul,’ ‘Garage,’ and ‘Frank,’ but ‘Room’ arguably chained the course of the Irish filmmaker’s career. In a surprise move, Abrahamson is tackling the period horror genre for his ‘Room’ follow-up ‘The Little Stranger.’”Shooting of the film took place in various locations outside of London and in Yorkshire. “The Little Stranger” is Focus Features, Pathe, and Film4 presentation in association with Ingenious Media and the Irish Film Board of a Potboiler production in association with Element Pictures.
