Popular play reading series, Santa Monica Rep Reads, will be held at The Edye of Santa Monica’s Broad Stage Theater on November 11, 2018.The Santa Monica Rep Reads concept is unique in that it engages audiences in direct and ongoing conversations - the audience suddenly finds itself in the midst of an interesting subject which is relevant with an enduring theme.Founded in 2010, Santa Monica Rep has produced nearly 40 play readings, productions, and special events, including co-presenting the SHINE Storytelling Salon, where hundreds of storytellers have shared their personal triumphs and tribulations.Santa Monica Rep makes use of the exceptional capabilities that theater provides in contributing to a more intelligent, inquiring, and engaged community. Their website describes them as a dynamic, ensemble-driven company who endeavor to create high-quality professional theater that is not only meaningful but entertaining as well. As a group they celebrate the creative process, while building a financially sustainable artistic home for their members.Eric Bloom, founding artistic director of the group, started performing on stage at the age of five. His first major role was as the head of the infamous lollipop guild in “The Wizard of Oz.” Bloom’s professional credits include regional roles at the Olney Theater Center (The Miser, Death of a Salesman, and summer tours of Twelfth Night and Much Ado About Nothing), The Shakespeare Theater (Two Gentleman of Verona), to name a few.Jen Bloom, the group’s second founding member is a cross-disciplinary director, teacher and speaker who loves unusual collaborations. Jen is a Resident Director at Santa Monica Rep, directing and producing projects like “Memorandum,” “How I Learned to Drive,” “The Learned Ladies” apart from several play festivals and readings. Her site-specific theatrical installation work includes “The Tempest!” at the Annenberg Beach House and “Dinosaur Encounters and Ice Age Encounters” in the Los Angeles Natural History Museum.Sarah Gurfield, another founding member of the group has an impressive repertoire of work. Some of her theatrical directing credits include the world premiere of Steven Fechter’s “The Commission” for the New York Fringe Festival; “ I Do!
