Iranian film The Nights of Zayandeh-rood directed by Mohsen Makhmalbaf known for Kandahar (2001), which was nominated for a Palme d’Or and The President (2014), will be screened at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, on January 26, 2017.The film shot in 1990, narrates the tale of an anthropologist and his daughter, which unfolds during three different periods - before, during, and after the Iranian Revolution. Working out of the ER of a local hospital the daughter treats suicidal patients. One such patient falls in love with her against all odds. The film was screened once before it was cut and banned by the Iranian censors. However, some original negatives of the film were stolen from the archives of the Iranian censorship committee and the copy was restored by Makhmalbaf himself. The restored version of The Nights of Zayandeh-rood opened the Venice Classics section of the 2016 Venice International Film festival.
