The Royal Albert Hall, London, celebrates LGBT History Month 2017 with the screening of Pride on February 6, 2017, at 7.00 pm followed by a post-show discussion with Jonathan Blake and members of LGSM.The film centers on real-life events based on gay rights activists Jonathan Blake and Mike Jackson who were two of the original members of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM). Set in the summer of 1984 during Margaret Thatcher’s rule, the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike and is facing intense hardships. This prompts a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers’ families. Their initial attempt to help the miners is looked down upon by the union. The group then journeys to a small town in Wales to deposit the donation in person. Through numerous incidents, the two groups discover that standing together makes them much stronger than fighting the good fight alone. The film is being screened at the Elgar Room. The screening will take place at the Royal Albert Hall, Imperial College Rd, Kensington, London SW7 2AP, UK.
