The last show of Georges Bizet’s 3-act opera, titled ‘The Pearl Fisher,’ by the English National Opera will be staged on December 2, 2016, at the London Coliseum. It's your last opportunity to check out this opera known for an exotic plot, rich orchestral imagery and the famed duet.The opera was first performed in 1863, and the plot is set in the ancient times on the island of Ceylon/ Sri Lanka. It is a tale of friendship between two men Zurga (Jacques Imbrailo) and Nadir (Robert McPherson) tested by the arrival of a mysterious woman Leïla played by Claudia Boyle. ‘The Pearl Fisher’ is riveting tale of friendship, love, and sacrifice and explores the themes of desire, longing, loss, and religion. Set in a fishing town in Sri Lanka, Penny Woolcock’s spectacular staging returns with fantastic set designs that recreate an underwater paradise.
