The sixth edition of “Kathakar: International Storytellers Festival” will be held at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi, from November 11 – 13, 2016.This is the fourth year that the IGNCA will be hosting the festival, featuring storytellers from India and abroad. It is being held in collaboration with the NGO Nivesh.The festival will present historical as well as contemporary stories, by professionals as well as those who are passionate about the art form. Many stories that have been handed down the generations through oral traditions also figure in the line-up. An important highlight is the “Tholpavakoothu Sangam,” a form of shadow puppetry from Kerala that will present stories from the “Kambha Ramayana” such as “Sree Rama Seetha marriage,” “Maareecha Mopksham,” “Seetha Apaharanam,” and “Sree Rama Pattabishekam” among many more. Danish Husain — poet, actor, theatre director and a seminal force in the revival of Dastangoi — the medieval form of storytelling — is also one of the star performers in the line-up. His performance on ‘Qissebazi’ will be a mix of poetry, folk tales, and a story by renowned Hindi writer Kashi Nath Singh, “Sadi Ka Sabse Bada Aadmi.” Jaishree Sethi, a storyteller from New Delhi, will present her interpretation of folk tales from Rajasthan as well as those of O Henry, Ismat Chugtai and Munshi Premchand.The international performers include Sarah Rundle, from London, who trained in community storytelling and acting; Giles Abbott, one of the UK’s leading storytellers, whose work dips into Viking and Celtic myths; Spice Arthur 702 from Japan, the group that turns the traditional Japanese art form of Kamishibai on its head by blending it with manga speed dates, Japanese picture storytelling and extra-zealous music; Katy Cawkwell from the UK, who is known for her vivid and powerful storytelling performances. “Kathakar: International Storytellers Festival” will be held from November 11 – 13, 2016 at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), 11 Mansingh Road, New Delhi - 110001, 5pm - 8.30pm.For details, visit: http://ignca.nic.in/Click on the slideshow for sneak peek of the festival.
