Opera Bastille, Paris, will host the performance of 'Eugène Onéguine', an opera in 3 acts, composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with a libretto, organised by the composer and Konstantin Shilovsky, from May 16 to June 14, 2017.Eugene Onegin is a good example of lyric opera to which Tchaikovsky added music that was dramatic. The story is of an arrogant selfish hero who regrets his callous treatment of a woman's love and his reckless provocation of a fatal duel with his best friend. Willy Decker’s superb production will make the Paris Opera ring out with the strains of Russian romantic music. Edward Gardner conducts an excellent cast including Peter Mattei in the title role and Anna Netrebko as Tatiana. The opera will be staged at Opera Bastille, Place de la Bastille, 75012 Paris, France.
