Andrea Lorenzo Scartazzini's 'The Sandman' is being staged at Oper Frankfurt and will run through October 23.This opera in ten scenes is based on a short story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, with a libretto by Thomas Jonigk. The opera mixes basic elements from the story with creepy and romantic themes. Nathanael's state can be described as a psychotic trip in the sheer homelessness of himself. This is shown in ten scenes. Jonigk's characters appear to be our contemporaries as they speak our language, and recognize similar feelings of self doubt. The opera is on view at Oper Frankfurt, Untermainanlage 11, 60311 Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
