Sri Lankan director Boodee Keerthisena intentionally aims to confuse audiences with his latest work “Alone in a Valley.” So much as that the audience at Okinawa International Movie Festival screening probably left questioning whether they had attended at all.The story tells of an ad agency worker who increasingly wonders whether what he sees is fact or fiction, a feeling that leaves the viewer as much in doubt as the character. A very personal film for Keerthisena, he says it was inspired by David Bowie. “I cannot do something with some part from [his] work, it might not show all the time, but it’s there,” he says.Posters of Bowie, one of the most mysterious and curious musicians of his generation, are scene on the walls of the main character’s bedroom.“Did I see something, did he really do that, or was it happening in my mind? This is the idea that I wanted to bring in to the film,” says Keerthisena, who cast Saumya Liyanage as the lead and produced it with a group of guerilla filmmakers.Photo Caption: Sri Lankan director Boodee Keerthisena tells ARTINFO about his latest, “Alone in a Valley,” screened at the Okinawa International Movie Festival.
