What to See at EU Film Days, Kyoto

EU Film Days aims to bring the best of European cinema to audiences in Japan as part of the annual EU-Japan friendship week.In total this year’s EU Film Days festival will be showing 27 films across dual locations – the National Film Center in Tokyo (until June 21) and the Museum of Kyoto (July 1-12).Films being showcased as part of the festival include the Estonian Golden Globe winner “Tangerines” which explores personal humanity in the midst of political violence, and “Ida” the beautifully shot tale of an orphaned nun discovering the tragedies of her past.The Tokyo European cinema showcase has been well received so far with residents in the city taking to twitter to share their experiences of EU Film Days:Akiko Nakajima ‏@akkodorleac tweeted about the film “Rocks in my Pockets” saying, “Very interesting content in this Latvian animation!” Whilst twitter user Kazuya Dino said of the films he had seen as part of the EU Film Days festival “Each one has its good points. Those unique views of the world are marvelous!”Croatian film “Vis-à-vis”, Finnish documentary “The Punk Syndrome” and the Spanish film “Witching and Bitching” are all amongst the films still to come in Tokyo as part of EU Film Days whilst the Museum of Kyoto is gearing up to welcome cinema enthusiasts of foreign film to its screens next month.ARTINFO have took a look at the Kyoto line-up and made our selection of the 6 best films to see in July as part of the EU Film Days cinema showcase.
