Debates about whether award shows matter these days seems to be as frequent as discussions of who actually deserved to win. Here are ARTINFO the Grammy Awards have in previous years been called “Consistent at One Thing: Being Wrong” and winning the prize for “Most Irrelevant Awards Show.”Part of the problem of course, is that all art is subjective and all opinions are pretty much valid. With so many music genres around these days, how can you really judge a hip-hop album against an EDM piece anyhow? Those two genres are perhaps the most overlooked by major awards shows, and for the latter, there has never been an awards show dedicated to electronic music before – until now.The first-ever ceremony celebrating EDM has been announced for April 23, titled the Electronic Music Awards & Foundation. Co-founded by British DJ Paul Oakenfold, the event will be broadcast live on Fox TV. Produced by TV4 Entertainment, and directed by Russell Thomas (MTV EMA Awards (2011-15), Katy Perry’s “Part of Me”), the show will last one hour and begin at 8 p.m.Filming will take place at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles on April 14, and promises the usual mix of red carpet, awards and live performances, whilst also raising money and awareness for various causes."I’m thrilled to be a part of an awards show that finally both recognizes and celebrates, on a primetime platform, one of the biggest music genres in the world today," said executive producer Oakenfold.Hosts, performers and nominees have yet to be announced.
