Conceived in 1984 by Viennese producer and artistic director Karl Regensburger and Brazilian choreographer Ismael Ivo, the international dance festival ImPulsTanz has been taking place annually. Taking over the Burgtheater, Volkstheater, venues in MuseumsQuartier, and 15 further more venues and spaces of the city of Vienna in Austria, it is the biggest of its kind in Europe. The festival offers a five-week program comprising performances, research projects and workshops, in addition to the danceWEB Scholarship Programme, which has developed into a platform for training and for exchanging ideas through theoretical and practical dialogue between upcoming and renowned dance artists. This programme benefits around 60 young individuals from over 40 countries, funded by the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna, the Arts Section of the Federal Chancellary, and by the Culture Programme of the European Union as well as 60 international foundations. The artist and choreographer Tino Sehgal will act as the Artistic Coach by mentoring this year’s iteration of the danceWEB Scholarship Programme as well as expand the workshop programme with a series drawn from the interrelationship between dance and visual arts. “Central aspects of dance have always been social, ritualistic and provided a sense of community. This is practiced and celebrated in a very contemporary way in Vienna with danceWEB and its extremely diverse workshop programme. I am looking forward to contributing and participating in it next summer,” Seghal said.Furthermore, ImPulsTanz and Alito Alessi - founder and manager of DanceAbility - offer the month-long training DanceAbility Teacher Certification, enabling aspiring teachers for mixed groups of dancers - with and without disabilities - to become professionally qualified.Running July 14 – August 14, 2016, ImpulsTanz has announced an extraordinary line-up of some of the world’s most respected choreographers – to some extent, primarily Belgians - alongside young, choreographic talents, in the frame of the “[8:tension] Young Choreographers’ Series.” Additionally, there will be over 200 Workshops and Research Projects taking place at Arsenal Vienna, as well as live concerts and DJ sets, having everyone hit the dancefloor, at Burgtheater Vestibül’s festival lounge. Before the festival kicks off, as part of ImPulsTanz-Specials, warm up events will take place from February 6 to February 14, 2016 at 21er Haus, organized in cooperation with Weltmuseum Wien.
