The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will be screening the film “Don’t Call Me Son (Mãe Só Há Uma)” on January 7 and 8, 2017.This poignant coming of age film from Brazil is focused on Pierre: tall, dark, and androgynously handsome. He presents as male at school and with his bandmates. Yet at times he locks himself in the bathroom and favors eyeliner, lipstick, and lace underwear. The confusion only goes deeper when the teenager’s single, working-class mom is arrested for having stolen him at birth. Following a DNA test, he is returned to his biological parents: bourgeois, straight-laced, and thrilled to have him back — at least until he joins them at a bowling alley in a mini-dress. The turmoil of adolescence is plumbed with wit and compassion by writer/director Anna Muylaert in this film, which is meant for mature audiences only. The film can be viewed at The Museum of Fine Arts, Law Building, 1001 Bissonnet, Houston, TX 77005.For details, visit: https://www.mfah.org/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the film.
