“World Trilogies: Ray’s Apu Trilogy,” a screening of Indian Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s widely acclaimed Apu film trilogy will run through December 31, 2016, at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.Considered to be among the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century, Satyajit Ray’s trilogy can be seen as individual self-contained stories that depict rural Bengal and urban cityscapes through each of the films. The trilogy looks at the trajectory and evolution of each character how they evolve and the viewers are taken on a journey with them. The films include Pather Panchali (Song of the Road) (1955), Aparajito (The Unvanquished) (1956) and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu) (1959) based on two Bengali novels written by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay. The original score was composed by Ravi Shankar. All films have been digitally restored.
