Tony Conrad’s 'Fifty-Five Years on the Infinite Plain’ at Tate Modern, London

Tate Modern, London will showcase a special iteration of the late Tony Conrad’s hypnotic audio-visual performance titled 'Fifty- Five Years on the Infinite Plain' on January 18, 2017.'Fifty-Five Years on the Infinite Plain' is the evolving title of an at-once mesmerizing and meditative work Conrad first performed on March 11, 1972 at The Kitchen, New York.The performance comprises the projection of four 16mm film loops each containing the same rapidly alternating pattern of black and clear vertical stripes that together produce an intense stroboscopic effect.This special performance is a tribute to the late Conrad and a celebration of his legacy within and across the fields of sound, moving image and performance and visual art.The performance will be staged at Tate Modern, Bankside, London SE1 9TG, United Kingdom.
