‘Katya Kabanova’ at Seattle Opera

Seattle Opera will be staging “Katya Kabanova” starting from February 25, 2017 till March 11, 2017.Composed by celebrated Czech composer Leoš Janáček, this captivating drama is a romantic tragedy, telling a dreamlike, visceral story of isolation and provincial oppression. Sung in Czech with English subtitles, this opera is adorned with powerful original music inspired by Slavic folk songs. Directed by acclaimed Australian director Patrick Nolan, this all-new production unfolds the sheltered life of Katya, who desires to be free from her mundane arranged marriage and find true love, but remains shackled under the domination of her unruly mother-in-law.
