The opera performance “Don Pasquale” will be part of the Glyndebourne Festival from July 13, 2017 through August 23, 2017.Originally composed by Gaetano Donizetti, the opera is an opera buffa or comic opera, presented over three acts. Directed by Mariame Clément and conducted by Giacomo Sagripanti, the performance will be a re-enactment of the ‘Tour 2011’ by Glyndebourne. Sung in Italian with English supertitles, the opera tells a story where an old bachelor Don Pasquale decides to marry and produce an heir just to spite his disobedient nephew Ernesto, who insists on marrying for love rather than money. The plot thickens, twists and turns as Don Pasquale’s romantic delusions are confronted with a complex deception, as his friend Dr Malatesta, in reality a double agent, introduces the perfect bride, which leads to a chaos. The opera’s period forms and contours are filled with modern details that match the score’s playfulness, long lyrical lines, and sheer vocal beauty that define the bel canto style. The performance will be at Glyndebourne, Lewes, East Sussex, BN8, 5UU, UKFor tickets and other details, visit: http://www.glyndebourne.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the opera.
